SLR lens literacy! From the meaning of digital identification to the classification of lenses, you can see at a glance

SLR lenses generally contain five parts: lens, aperture blades, zoom ring (no prime lenses), focus ring, and distance scale.

Lenses: The inside of the lens contains multiple lenses, for example, when we buy lenses, we will see that the lens structure is 5 groups of 6 elements, which means that there are 6 lenses, divided into 5 groups. However, the performance of the lens is not proportional to the number of elements of the lens.

Aperture blade: It is inside the lens and is mainly used to adjust the amount of light. When the aperture blade is open, a large amount of light passes through; When the aperture blade is closed, only a small amount of light passes through.

Zoom ring: Only zoom lenses will have it, fixed focal length of prime lenses, zoom cannot be achieved. Adjust the zoom ring to change the angle of view of the shot, so you don't need to run around to find the angle.

Focus ring: According to the camera, it is generally located at the head or tail of the lens, and when the focus ring is rotated, the lens will move to achieve this link of focusing.

Distance scale: The distance between the lens and the subject at the same time as the amount of extension.

DSLR camera lens parameters

There will be some numerical identification on the lens, which include lens attributes, aperture parameters, focal length parameters, etc.

Focal length parameter: indicates the focal length range of the lens. Generally speaking, the shorter the focal length and the wider the viewing angle, the farther the subject appears; The longer the focal length, the narrower the angle of view, and the closer the subject will appear.

Viewing angles at different focal lengths

Aperture parameters: indicate the maximum aperture factor of the lens, some lenses also identify the minimum aperture factor of the lens;

Let's take Canon's EF 17-40mm f/4L USM lens as an example to introduce it.

EF: Indicates that this lens is suitable for all Canon cameras.

If your lens is EF-S on it, it only fits Canon's APS-C format SLR camera. In fact, Canon also has RF lenses, EF-M lenses, EF special lenses, EF cinema prime lenses, there are many types, interested friends can pay attention to it.

17-40mm: indicates the focal length range of this lens, 17-40mm is a wide-angle lens, covering from ultra-wide angle to standard focal length.

If the lens

has only one numeric identifier, for example, 20mm, it means that the lens is a prime lens.

1:4: This lens has a constant aperture and the maximum value is F/4.
