The difference between telecentric lenses and ordinary lenses

Time:2023-09-21

Telecentric industrial lens is mainly to correct the parallax of traditional industrial lens and specially designed lens, it can be within a certain object distance, so that the obtained image magnification will not change with the change of object distance, which is a very important application for the situation that the measured object is not on the same object surface.

The closer the target object of a normal industrial lens is to the lens (the shorter the working distance), the larger the image will be. When using ordinary lenses for dimensional measurement, the following problems occur:

(1) Because the measured object is not in the same measurement plane, the magnification is different;

(2) Large lens distortion

(3) Parallax, that is, when the object distance becomes larger, the magnification of the object also changes;

(4) The resolution of the lens is not high;

(5) The uncertainty of the edge position of the image due to the geometric characteristics of the visual light source.

The telecentric lens can effectively solve the above problems existing in ordinary lenses, and there is no judgment error of this nature, so it can be used in high-precision measurement, measurement and other aspects. Telecentric lenses are high-end industrial lenses that usually have superior image quality and are particularly suitable for dimensional measurement applications.

Regardless of where at a specific working distance, there will be the same magnification after refocusing, because the large field of view of the telecentric lens is directly related to the proximity of the light bar of the lens, and the larger the lens size, the larger the scene required. Telecentric lenses provide superior image quality with less distortion than traditional prime lenses, and this optical design makes the image plane more symmetrical and can be used with software for precise measurement.

Advantages of ordinary lenses: low cost, practical, wide use.

Disadvantages of ordinary lenses: magnification will change, there is parallax.

General lens application: imaging large objects.

Advantages of telecentric lenses: constant magnification, does not change with depth of field, and ignores differences.

Disadvantages of telecentric lenses: high cost, large size, heavy weight.

Application of telecentric lenses: metrology and measurement, CCD-based measurement, microcrystallology
